07 Aug Custom Orthotics
The presence of foot pain and altered body mechanics can significantly affect the function of other parts of the body, including the ankle, leg, knee, hip, and low back. A successful treatment for many of these conditions is custom made orthotics. While drugstore orthotics may help with comfort and temporary pain relief they cannot correct altered mechanics of the foot as they are not custom designed for individual foot structure. When appropriately prescribed and fitted for the individual, orthotics can significantly decrease pain and increase the function of not only the foot but any other parts of the body that are compensating.
Timmins Chiropractic clinic offers custom made orthotics and orthopaedic footwear. Our focus is on providing our patients with a detailed biomechanical analysis of the joint movement of the foot, muscle activation patterns, and how the rest of the body is affected and forced to compensate for altered mechanics.
To determine if orthotics will be of benefit, patients should expect a thorough consultation and evaluation of their presenting problem. At this time, orthopaedic testing and a biomechanical analysis of the foot will be conducted to aid in the evaluation. In addition, a video gait analysis and the need for x-rays will all be considered prior to developing a diagnosis and treatment plan.
